Strange behavior

I went to place a server into service, but the first workstation couldn't "see" the server, and vice versa. In testing I could "ping" from workstation to workstation, but not the server. The strange part is, the workstations, being set to "obtain address automatically" had gotten the proper addresses and subnet masks - and they must have gotten them from the server.

The server's NIC is an integrated Broadcom BCM57xx type, and all appears normal. The Broadcom diagnostics show "passed" for every routine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Need more information here. What OS is running on the server? The workstations? Is the server set to get an IP via DHCP, or is it static? Are all of the server setting right? What kind of connectivity, if any, is at the server?

What is the network topology? Any possibility of a router dolling out IPs via DHCP?

The first thing I would check...is to see what, if anything, was running DHCP from the network. Important thing to check on..is DNS.

Brian, you're a jewel. The basic problem was the integrated NIC on the M/B. Disabling that, and moving to another NIC, corrected that problem.
BTW, your article was a great help.
