Unhappy Odd Problem, FF Uplink speed low

Help, this is my first post on this forum.

I have Verizon FIOS 5/2 service. When I use IE I can go to speed test sites and they all report 5.1/1.8 mbps. But when I switch to FireFox (1.5.0.6) I get 900k to 1 mbps uplink speeds, downloads 5.1. This hold true for Speakeasy, pcpitstop, and infospeed.verizon.net. On speedtest.verizon.net it registers 1.8mbps. I have talked to verizon tech support and have run optimizers from this site and verizon site. No change. The tech was at a lost, and did not have any more options to try.

All test were run on a wired connection to my netgear FVS328 router, XP Home SP2, no other users or PC's on. I did a clean install yesterday thinking something was messed up. After doing all of MS (45+) updates. I installed my Avira AV. Installed FF. Ran the speakeasy test, Same results 5.1 meg down with 900k up.

Everything points to something restricting my up link to 20% of my down. But then again I can go to Speedtest.verizon and it show the proper speed.

HELP, I've run out of ideas and things to try.

You could dl the faster fox extension to see if that helps.

    Easy way of tweaking it.

I had all ready tried that earlier. Just failed to mentioned it.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I have uninstalled all services related to QoS. Thinking that it may be restricting the upload to 20% of download speeds. Which is default if turned on and router supported. My fvs338 supports this. But is on my other service now.

Joe, this was the first thing that I tried, the Verizon's techs had me do it a second time.

I've concluded that it is a Java Script problem in the way some sites handle the test. I did my own test using a ftp client for firefox. And got close to the advertised speeds. Uploading a small file (like the test do) do not accurately reflect the speed. My test were done transfering files >100meg. I feel that I am getting the advertised speed.

You have the right idea... It depends on the way the browser handles javascript and other rich media content. The more accurate test is always large file transfers.

I'm on FIOS and I had noticed the same.
