    Angry Windows router port numbers?

Have 2 comps hooked together with a Linksys router. ! runs Win XP the other Win ME. Xp can see ME but ME cannot see XP. No firewalls are running. I believe the problem is port associated. If it is then what ports do I need to open?

There is no firewall in the router on the LAN side..those 4 ports on the LAN side are just a switch.

Any 3rd party software firewalls? If so..run their network setup wizards.

On the Windows XP machine..set file and print sharing as an exception in the Windows XP firewall.

Enable netbios over TCP in the TCP/IP properties on both machines.

Should be able to ping the IP of each machine, and get replies.

Next is setting up file and print sharing on the XP machine..but first..get the above working.

No firewalls are running, can ping both machines, netbios is enabled, file and print sharing is enabled, and networking wizard is worthless. ME still cannot see XP.

Have you setup a share on the XP machine yet? Are you using simple file sharing?

Primary Login type for the ME machine...is it "Client for Microsoft Networks"?

Went to the MS site and it seems there is a problem with networking XP and ME. This is taking more time than I have to spare. I thought it would be an easy fix. I'm paying the neighbor to fix it. Thanks though.
