    slower cable speed. Any suggestions?

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how I can speed up my internet connection.

This is what my cable company advertizes for highspeed internet:
    Download 7 Mbps
    Upload 640 Kbps

I did a speed test and this is what they say:

    3147 / 598

    Your download speed : 3147 kbps or 393.3 KB/sec.
That is 40.3% worse than an average user on cgocable.net
    Your upload speed : 598 kbps or 74.7 KB/sec.
That is 3.6% better than an average user on cgocable.net

I tried using the TCPOptimizer and tried using DRTCP021 to change some settings as well like Rwin which the tweak test suggested but I changed it back for now because it made no difference.

This is my Tweak test from Broadband reports:

    1. Your Tweakable Settings:

    Receive Window (RWIN): 513920
    Window Scaling: 3
    Path MTU Discovery: ON
    RFC1323 Window Scaling: ON
    RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF
    Selective Acks: ON
    MSS requested: 1460
    TTL:
    (less any hops behind firewall)
    70
    TTL remaining: 57
    TOS/TOS subfield: 0
    TOS/Flags:
    2. Test 100741 byte download

    Actual data bytes sent: 100741
    Actual data packets: 70
    Max packet sent (MTU): 1500
    Max packet recd (MTU): 1500
    Retransmitted data packets: 0
    sacks you sent: 0
    pushed data pkts: 14
    data transmit time: 0.439 secs
    our max idletime: 1277.6 ms
    transfer rate: 57073 bytes/sec
    transfer rate: 456 kbits/sec
This is not a speed test!
    transfer efficiency: 100%

    3. ICMP (ping) check

    Minimum ping: 33.83 ms
    Maximum ping: 37.55 ms
    Ping stability:
    33.95 33.83 35.03 36.18 35.65 34.10 34.18 34.26 34.47 37.55

    Notes and recommendations:
Choose RWIN between 65700 and 175200 (FAQ #586)
    download/use DRTCP .. (FAQ #578)
    Read the tweak FAQ

    Notes and recommendations:
    Good data stream (no/few rexmits)
    1 second+ stall detected (FAQ #1606)

    Notes and recommendations:
    Looking good

I'm using a cable modem without voip or cable tv.
    I have a Dlink dl-524 router
WinXp Pro with Service Pack 2
Other then the router, I dont have any other firewalls.
I'm not sure what other information you will need.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hmm, not sure.. I haven't tried it yet. I'll have to do it tomorrow.

I seem to remember the last time I unhooked the router and put the connection from modem directly to the pc I think my internet didn't work after that. I have no idea why cuz the wires were all correct but I had to hook the router back up before it would work. I think that's what happened anyways. It was a while ago I tried that cuz really I don't even need the router.
    I'll see for sure tomorrow.
    Thanks for the reply.

I took off the router and got pretty much the same thing. 3161 / 599 (That was from Los Angeles, CA

Thought maybe if I tried a different location It might be different..

    Seattle, WA: 5088 / 580
    Miami, FL: 6575 / 374

Toronto, ON, Canada: (3072k file download)

    Time Elapsed: 3.6282238960266 Seconds
    Transfered: 3260928 bytes
    7021.62 KiloBits / Second
    ---
So I'm guessing my speed is ok then? I didn't know it all depended on where you lived. Toronto is the closest for me.
