Internet Drops When Downloading Large Files

Everytime I try to download a large file, my internet connection always drops off for about 1 minute before fixing itself. Its very annoying because I often can't resume the download for some reason and I have to restart the download with the exact same results happening again. I'm not sure if this is a service issue or some spyware or something, but there has to be some way to stop it from happening.

I was hooked up to a Linksys wireless router, but I plugged the moden directly into the computer with the same result. Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I did a speed test and got these results:

Download Speed: 4825 kbps (603.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 358 kbps (44.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

on the linksys make sure block wan request is diabled allo ping or icmp to get though.

If you running windows xp sp2 firewall or any software run make sure you are allowing icmp traffic to get though if that ping is not going though could be why it's dropping off. Ping is what checks to make sure both connections are up and running.
