Clearing NetBT in WinXP Repair Network Connection

I registered today to show my true appreciation for this great troubleshooting tip. It worked just as you said and I'm truly happy as it restored my system that I had thought I would have to reinstall WinXP again. I had remove my network cards and reinstall new updated drivers and that had not fix my problem. But as soon as I ran the fix and rebooted it all started to work again. Thanks a million!

I tried the Winsock Fix solution but unfortunately it didn't work in my case.

However, I remembered that I had been looking through Steve Gibson's Freebies page and had tried out 'NoShare' for closing the NetBIOS TCP/IP vulnerabilities.

I went back there and downloaded and used the "LetShare" application and 'Bingo' my LAN connection would now 'Repair' and my LAN worked normally.

Thought I'd mention it here just in case you too had been messing with Gibson and forgotten about it!

hey there yeah i have a problem with my connection as well. like before the clearing NetBT wasn't happening as well. then i did what you said stonecat and it fixed that problem. the problem now is happening as before, like my speed can go up to 2,500 kbs (2.5 mb/s) now ever since i turned on my pc and it had the previous problem the net has been heaps slow. evern to download stuff. but while playing counter strike source online my ping is low like about 20-30.but my downloads and certain pages take forever, when they used to go at 2.500kbs.going at about 7-10kbs now. any ideas anyone?
if this helps: my modem is a Dlink dsl-g604t generation2 and my MB is Asus P5k-SE. thank you!

Tried the free app: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html , several times to no avail. I too got the windows couldnt clear netbt error when using repair connection. the following worked
flawlessly.
1. Go to "start" & "run"
2. Type "cmd" and press enter. A "DOS box" should come up
3. type "netsh int ip reset c:\logfile.txt" and press enter. THis will change the settings and create a logfile on the root directory of your C drive.

ive been recently having trouble with losing my connection to my wireless network

i tried your winsock repair tool and it worked for a bit, however i had to run letshare.exe then winsock repair and reboot before i could connect to the internet,

the winsock repair did keep my connection stable for a few days but now im back to square one with my wireless cutting out at random times

please help

Are you able to run with a wired connection for a week? Try to isolate if it's really your tcp stack...or just the wireless.

i would be using a wired connection but my computer is upstairs and router is downstairs near modem so i cant get a cable,

can i do anything else to fix my tcp stack? i just wanna rule it out before i look into getting a new motherboard or wireless card

There are several utilities out there which perform the same command...this tool just runs a netsh reset command....pretty much these steps...

So this tool is resetting your TCP stack. I'd check system for malware/adware.

Have you gone through the various wireless tips stickied at the top of the wireless forum?

Try with disable your antivirus and do it.
many times antivirus block network security.... else disable firewall in that antivirus that may work..

Im also having the same problem which is the "Clearing NetBt" i have downloaded the WinsockXpfix software but dont know how to use it. What i mean is shud i just directly run the software before making a backup of the registry or shud i do something else first ??? Im afraid that my net will stop working or my windows will get corrupted. Im just a regular internet user using Windows XP service pack 3 with no kind of Networking knowhow (newbie wen it comes 2 solving dese kind of problems)

All you do is run it...click the button. It restores your TCP/Winsock to default settings..just like the very first day your computer was powered on.

I've run it on at least several hundred different PCs over the years...I have not had it cause a problem. You can run it many times over and over and over without harm...all it does it restore your TCP and winsock files/settings to original default values/files. Like the day you first powered up your computer.

Any broadband tweaks you've done...will get wiped, since all goes back to default. So you'd have to reset your tweaks.

Any static IP settings you may have put in there will have to be redone...since it all goes back to default (so your IP will be set to obtain auto). So you many need to jot those down.

Thanks alot YeOldeStonecat ur utiltity worked like magic. Im also having this error msg saying "Generic Host process for windows 32 has encountered a problem and needs to close" after this my sound seems to disappear i will greatly appreciate if u wud help me out on dis as well
