Questions about the Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G mobo concerning memory

After some careful consideration and input from several people, I have decided to scrap the dell idea and just build my own PC.

I am looking at the Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G mobo because I want to use a EM64T-enabled Pentium D dual-core processor (w/o HT). At first glance this mobo looks very good especially since it supports many UDMA IDE devices as well as the SATA and RAID standards and lists for a very resonable price. My question concerns memory brand and type to use with this mobo.

I would like to use PC2-5400 DDR2 Dual-Channel 667mhz memory on this board (which it supports), but I am having a difficult time finding a brand that meets these standards and is "tested compatible". I have found a OCZ Gold Series 1gb kit (2x512mb) for $130 over on newegg but OCZ's website does not list much on their compatibitly list. However I have noticed on other memory websites that their "compatibility list" is grossly out-of-date (last updated over a year ago). I was just wondering if anyone has one of these mobo's and what experiences or recommendations they have concerning memory?

    thanks in advance...

Crucial only lists support for the GA-8I945P Pro board

    Is the 8I945P-G new?

Good question. I was just looking up mobo's on newegg and found it. The two don't appear to be all that different; here is the link to the comparison...

I just emailed crucial's tech support asking them if they think their 1GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667mhz memory module will work with the GA-8i945P-G mobo. If it doesn't, I might just spend the extra $25 and get the P-Pro mobo since it is supported.

Ya the boards are pretty similar so the ram may work on both. Crucial should be anble to give ya all the info you need.
