    SATA HD question

I"m not sure on this since this is my first own sata drive it's only an 1yr old.

It doesn't want to register in the cmos if i push the cable which both are setead power and sata channel it keeps registering on and off.

Is that an sata cable issue ,or the drive it self? I'm not sure if sata cables have a longer lifespan then IDe or shorter span.

    TIA

It depends on the cable. Some are built better than others.

check the power supply with a digi-multi meter, could be low on the 12,5 or 3 volt rail.

there should be a tutorial on google for this, sorry i can't find ya a link right now.

The 4 areas I'd look at...

    1) Bum cable...but I've not come across a bad SATA cable yet....they appear, by design, to me more problem free than the old IDE ribbon cables.

    2) Bum hard drive...I've seen this a few times, same failure rate as old IDE drives.

    3) Bum motherboard (SATA connectors/bus)
Try a BIOS flash to the latest

    4) Inadequate power supply
