my computer sucks big time man. i dunno what's wrong with it. i'm running on pentium 4 1.6ghz 256mb ram. i dont know what's its problem but it just cant start programs. first windows task manager doesn't starts then msconfig on 'run' stops working. now even programs like norton antivirus and spybot doesn't work even when i click on them. sounds like a virus but hey i just formatted my com. so what's wrong? hardware or software?

Get behind a router when you install Windows XP. If there is a direct connection to the internet you'll be infected by a worm or 2 a few seconds after the first desktop boot.

If you don't have a router do what I did. Get all the windows service packs and install them before hooking up your connection. That worked for me.
you mean it's viruses which causes these to happen? well but i've done all the tests with norton and they said its ok.
Installing windows on a cable line without protection is like sticking a neon sign on the digital highway saying "FREE PORN!!!!"
And adware/spyware, they all cause problems. Norton isnt really the greatest scanner either.
In your first post you said Norton wouldn't work.

Format and reinstall Windows from behind a router, or get all the windows updates previous to doing a reinstall, and reinstall Windows and the updates before you give your PC an internet conection.
