    PCIe x16 backwards compatible w/ pcie x8?

I'm getting a raid card that needs a pcie x8 slot but the mobos i see have x1 x4 x16 will the pcie x8 card fit into a x16 slot and work?

Also since the motherboards with 2 x16 slots use SLI for video cards, can i have a single video card in a pcie x16 slot and use the other x16 slot for anything pcie, or is it video only?

My bad, if a mod is awake this early this thread could use a move to the hardware section.

In case anyone is looking to know this later on.

PCIe is backwards compatible with slower PCIe cards.
