..yeah, ok, WOW !!!..happy now ?

..practically, 0.09% bandwidth to 0.8/0.9 with a steady state dl/ul rate (according to task-manager). I've no idea whats happening to the other area users but already thu one crisis period, lunchtime and its holding good..

I used the Speedtest.net test before and after.

I am in Salt Lake City

    Before

Using a Server in Salt Lake City....4381 kb/s my highest was (5,500 kb/s)
    Using a Server in San Francisco....3592 kb/s my highes was (6,235 kb/s)

    After

Using a Server in Salt Lake City....8567 kb/s
Using a Server in San Francisco....11667 kb/s (Oh YEAH!)
Using a Server in Moscow....1391 kb/s (Better than what I was running a week ago.)

Just a note for you guys on Comcast: One way Comcast "caps" the download and upload speeds is with the configuration file downloaded to the cable modem with every reset of the modem.

The modem is reset everytime the power is disconnected, and also from the network from time to time.

If you have only the standard broadband, no cable tv, your max rate will be 4400 kbps down and 384 kbps up. In most cases the difference in cost to add just the basic cable is about $5, and the download boosts to 6600 kbps. Just ask the sales guys to be sure.

The fast guys are at 8800 kbps down and 768 up.

Some areas of the country are testing higher speeds, either burst rate doubling on downloads or actual speeds of 16 mbps on the fastest.

    Hope this helps!

Might be a goo idea also to change the default setting in XP for multiple connections. I kept getting slow speeds and ZOne Alarm kept shutting itself off, I checked event 4226 and found that my system had exceeded the max allowable connections.

I had changed it before but it seems that often MS by stealth changes it back with a NEW update. I would suggest you check in your event viewer and see if 4226 has a yellow exclamation mark?

Try here and download the small programme (1kb) and run it. I set my connections to 80. Give it a try for yourself and see.

I haven't visited Speedguide in a while so I figured I would stop by the forums. Headed over to the tweaking forum and noticed a new TCP Optimizer 2.0.2 beta was out. Decided I would give it a shot for entertainment value.

I am on Comcast HSI 4000/384 kbps basic package (or so I thought). Running a speed test from dslreports.com/stest, downloading a 5.9 MB file usually results in an avg of 3500/300 kbps (which is good, aroun d 90% rated speed) speeds with windows default settings..

After running TCP Optimizer on optimal setting with slider on 4000 and running about 10 seperate tests from dslreports, my speeds have gone up to and over 4000/300 and a number of times reached over 5000 kbps (see below)! I had not known my bandwidth increased ISP side.

Here is a recent screenshot from a speed test after tweaking with the latest TCP Optimizer beta:

Absolutely incredible. I had rarely met 4000 kbps prior to running the optimizer and now I'm surprised if I don't get at least 4000 kbps (haven't had less since the 10 or so runs after tuning the stack). After using TCP Optimizer's optimal setting I'm receiving over 100% of rated speeds.

records: best runs since tweaking comcast 6000/384 (cache cleared, legitimate results):

    5855/324 kbps - 731.8 KB/s (during non-peak hours)
    5424/337 kbps - 678 KB/s (during peak hours!)

I'm now getting speeds like I'm supposed to as opposed to 2000kbps less with XP default values.

Hi: I just got upgraded from Road Runner. I did not notice much improvement at all......I don't know if there software is optimized for cable, but I noticed that the values were not even set.....Like the mtu was zero and others way out of sync.....I used the optimizer and now I am downloaded in the 3 to 5 mgb range.....Can this really be? Could this optimizer actually make that much improvement or do you think my cable company is just not giving me what I am paying for? I don't understand........Danny13350@twcny.rr.com

    Tweaking comcast

I was having a sad day, my cable was giving me about 100KB/s download.. which is still much better than the 2.8KB/s I had with dialup.

I used MTU 1500 and vanburen's 10000 cable setting on XP and WHALA

    Neoghost:
And yes I did the test on 2 other servers and all were in a consistant range.. nod:
    I'm using a Zoom 5241 modem

Yeah, WOW!!! my thoughts exactly. Here's my experience: Prior to today, I had a 768K down/ 256K up (nominal) DSL connection. I upgraded today to 1.5M down/ 512K up. I ran a benchmark speedtest before the "upgrade" and got 665K down, which was about normal for this area and that connection. After work, I ran the speedtest and 929K down, very disappointing since I literally doubled the connection speed, allegedly. So being quite depressed, I went to my old buds at SG and downloaded the SG TCP Optimizer. I set my 1.5M connection speed on the slider, hit the optimize button and rebooted. I ran the Speakeasy speedtest and low and behold I had been tweaked to an earth-shaking 283K down!!! I said, oh well, no sweat, other guys have had this same problem and just restored Windows Defaults. So I chose the Restore Windows Default and rebooted. Hey, I was able to reclaim a substantial amount of my lost speed. Speakeasy now shows me at 310K down! I figured, oh well, at least I only hosed MY computer, so I went to my wife's and did the speed test, only to acquire an amazing 290K down! Yeah, I know I shot myself in the foot, I'm not blaming anyone else. I just want to know how to get my wimpy 929K back. Has the Optimizer hosed the router as well as my PC? Any assistance would be most appreciated. Again, I'm not flaming the program or the site, it just didn't work for me. And i was warned by other guys who had theirs hosed to proceed with caution. So ignoring all the caveats, I proceded anyway. Thanks in advance...

Please start a separate help thread so we can look at your settings in more detail. The Optimizer only changes registry settings on your PC, it does not affect your router or other computers on the network.
It would be helpful if you also include an Analyzer report in your thread.

Philip, thanks for your assistance. And I will indeed post another thread to see if we can eek out a couple more bps. But to close this one out, I just got home from work and did one more speed test (hoping the PC fairies had sprinkled some magic dust overnight) and I got 1189/432 which is real close to double what I had before upgrading. Why the registry didn't recover from the return to Windows Defaults, I don't know, but hey, I'm grinnin'. So I will take your advice and begin a new help thread with the info you requested. BTW, which forum would you suggest?
