    Go Coast Guard

In this hurricane, the one government agency on the ball is the Coast Guard, a highly decentralized agency now stuck within the Homeland Security maze. With only 40 aircraft, it pulled off over 1,000 rescues yesterday.

The Coast Guard is super. They also have the advantage of operating in the New Orleans area 24/7 in normal times.

They sure don't seem to get much negative press. I've encountered a cutter crew once, at a dock. They project a pretty stern image, but their conduct seems to be very different.

I am a Coast Guard Vetran. It doesn't surprise me. The Coast Guard is one branch that doesn't let red tape get in the way. We would get a call for distress and out we go, no matter how we got along or didn't get along as people we were on the way to complete a mission me and a Red Sox fan or Democrat or Independant or Republican hand in hand to help someone out. Thats what they are all about.

Coast guard rocks! Hell, they had a good number of people rescued before GW finished his first 9-holes over at the golf course that morning.

Does the Coast Guard still have the USS Eagle (or whatever that old ass ship is called)? I wouldn't be surprised if they had that ole' sea-dragon on its way to the Gulf..

Our Coast Guard is setting an awesome example of how a rescue effort is supposed to go. Good job!

It still is on Active Duty used as training vessel for cadets at the Academy in New London, Connecticut.
    Respect it.

It's a barque, not a ship. So much for your rum ration for the month of September.
