Thats a demo and the game isn't 100% perfect yet.. still a few bugs.. from what i've read there is a memory leak in there causein a problem on alot of the big bad cards out there.. happens alot in new games...Originally Posted by Gentry
Is it just me or has the term 'Next Generation' changed to mean something else entirely. Take for example, the F.E.A.R. demo benchmarks on FiringSquad's website. The brand new 'Next Generation' GF7800GTX can barely play the game at 1600x1200 with max settings. Isn't this a 'Next Generation' game being played on a 'Next Generation' video card? What's up with that? If you're going to plank down $500+ dollars for a video card, shouldn't it be able to play brand new games Extremely well? After all, that's why you buy a 'Next Generation' card is it not?

To me, "Next-Gen" is what's on the horizon about to come out. The 7800 is already out, so to me that means "current-gen".

Agreed with Stoney ...
Also lkeep in mind , last YEAR EQ2 came out with a gmae that was 3-4 generations ahead of any hardware that could play it to it's full potential ...
Gmae snow are trying to compensate for the rapid hardware growth by making games for a few generations later so it's gradually getting better and better as new hardwarecomes out.
With my current Rig , I can generally play EQ2 on High Quality ( and VRY high quality in some places ) with minimal lag ....
But it still has an EXTREME setting as well , that is only playable for me in wide open , low action area's. ( Antonica/ Commonlands )
that is one BEE-U-Tee-Full game !!

I guess I'm just tired of the PC game scene, where you buy a new videocard and 6 months later, you can't play new games with all the settings maxed. It just frustrates me. It creates an endless desire to upgrade your hardware in order to play a new stinking game. And when you do, you're all ready out of luck when some new killer game comes out.
I feel that way too. That's why I don't game much anymore. I've discovered the sun and fresh air... it frightens me.Originally Posted by Gentry
I used to be that way....purchase the latest vid card every 6 months when a faster one came out. But I stopped that 2 years ago, I'm still gaming with my old 9800pro 256 megger...and you know what? The online games still run fine one notch back from maxed out or simply at 1280x1024 instead of 1600x1200...the fun is still there. I play BF2, so it's not like I'm playing some old outdated game that doesn't push my system.Originally Posted by Gentry

i know what you mean, i just switched from 9800Pro 128mb, to an X800XL, and it works great, I just don't like the idea of playing a game, and not getting to see it the way the developer wants you to, without that $500 videocard. Alas, theres not too much a person can do, I don't think it's going to change anytime soon.
I have the 128Mb version on that card.. runs every game i throw at it just fine.. I can max out if i wanna see how different it is.. and still to this day.. I've yet to like the visual improvment.. when game developers stop worring about how realisticly beautiful a game is and starts to worry about how fun a game is.. thats when you'll see games that will have 120+ single player gameplay times and the entire time your enjoying it.. (rather than wishing you could have back that hour you just wasted on some random time-delay map like in Warcraft 3 so they can brag about how much game time they will have in it..)Originally Posted by YeOldeStonecat
Next gen games or current gen games.. I'll still run them on this card as long as i can even if i cannot max it out..
my common settings is always 1024x768.. I dont go any higher than that unless it looks that much better, commonly never does.. and I can max out almost every setting in 95% of the games and game demos i've played..
drop your Res 1 step.. and watch the fps fly with all the pretty detail..
