    The mighty Mississippi

The lower half of Louisiana is a modern place - it didn't begin to exist until the end ot the Wisconsin glaciation era, about 12,000 years ago. It is all mud.

If you remember a couple of years ago when an errant freighter crashed into the Riverwalk, you are in the area of the superdome. Across the street from the crash I saw a construction site where a modest building was being erected on 150 foot long concrete pilings, on a lot that was a number of feet below sea level. Stupidities like this come about because folks are unwilling to acknowledge that a river like the Mississippi is beyond human comprehension and control.

Here's a link that tells of when human arrogance came to the river, and the horrible time bomb, far beyond the recent calamity, was created.

We need to shoot the Core of Engineers and stop all levee construction.

Abandon the present site of New Orleans, allowing it to become a barrier island to protect against this happening again.

Reconstruct on higher ground above lake Ponchartrain.

Or invest in the billions it will take to subside the potential danger. If the current technology was 100% in place of these flood zones, damage wouldn't have been as bad. Still bad, but not as bad. "Jesus H Christ, them liberal communist hippies is charging taxes again! It's not like it's for the good of the people!"

Just think Kip...all the rain that fell on Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, ect...will all flow into the Cumberland, Tennessee, Ohio rivers, ect..then back into the Mississippi..and you guessed it...back to New Orleans.

Mother nature has a sick sense of humor...another hurricane build up in the gulf and hit N.O. - Mississsippi again.

We had 3.3". It's been so dry up here that it did little damage.
