    CPU temp probs

I am having an issue with my p4EE 3.2

The BIOS claims its at 83C, it doesnt get choppy or anything like that but my alarm starts to go off. The heatsink isnt very warm to the touch. I used the stock fan with the thermal grease on it.

Took it off and only part of it had bonded with the cpu, so I put on another stock intel heatsink (looks the exact same slightly different product #) this had some artic silver on it, so i spread it around on the heatsink, and spread enough to cover the cpu itself. Same thing BIOS reports 83C

I have the latest BIOS for my ABIT IC7, latest software. everything is set to the default for the CPU.

Any Ideas? I will most likely get a aftermarket heatsink but I want to get this problem solved before I do.

never mind I got it to idle at 50c

touch the back of your mobo after.. If its 82 C - you would sure as hell know it if you touched the heatsink / back of the mobo.

the heatsink wasnt getting great contact with the cpu, i added a bit more thermal grease and made sure it was down really tight.

ok so I assume it wasn't enough on it to cover the core and the HS wasn't tight enough. Yep that will do it
