New Computer Internet really slow!! WHY??

    Hello all,

OK here is my problem, I can connect to the internet but it is running extremely slow (like dialup speeds or slower). I have no idea why it is going so slow.

This is a new computer that was home built, and all parts were brand new.

    Specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    ASUS K8NE mobo
NVidia GeForce 6800 GT vid card
    550W PSU
    1 GB ram (2x512 mb)

    thats main stuff.

I have plugged my laptop into my laptop and it runs fine, so I know it's not the cable.

It does run on the internet but just extremely slow, it will send like 9000 packets and recieve like 50 or less.

If anybody has any clue how to fix this I would appreciate it soooo much, seriously it would mean so much to me this is really bugging me and I have no idea what to do.

    Thanks,

    Jordan Murphy

    This might help:

Go to Start, Connect to, Right Click on your connection, Properties, Configure, Maximum Speed 115200.

Another idea is to download Winsocks XP Fix which will reset the ports etc:
    Winsocks XP Fix

what kind of network card do you have? are you going to a router or a switch? I know you said its a new machine but are you sure it doesn't have any viruses or spyware?
