    San Francisco Bay to Breakers

    http://www.baytobreakers.com/history/index.html
Bay to Breakers is the oldest consecutively run footrace in the world. The 12K race was established in 1912 as a way to boost the spirit of San Francisco after the devastation of the 1906 earthquake. Held on New Year's Day - and called the San Francisco Cross City Race - there were slightly less than 200 participants that first year. Robert Jackson Vlught was the first person to ever cross the finish line, with a finishing time of 44:10.
The race goes right by my house, so every year we step out, right about the half-way point and take a walk along the route to join in on the crazy fun. It is not uncommon to see such wierd things as a Tiki Bar, a Strip CLub complete with stripper pole or a Heavy Metal Concert, all "running" the race. Theres about a zillion Kegs, any of which one can usually walk up to and fill there cup for free and literally TONS of BBQ's and Bars along the route.

Here's some pics I took while walking about a 2 mile portion of the 7 mile race.
