    rough start

    I am as most of you know I am the chaplain for the local American Legion, and I feel you guys and gals are like family to me. I have had 1 death, three cases of cancer, and six terminal illnesses reported to me in my first two weeks of the job. Does anyone have a baby coming I can bless or some good news to share. I hit this position at a bad time for our local Post. I dont want you guys to take it wrong, I love my job, just need some encouragement to keep me going.

    Thanks in advance.

    Our baby will be here on Thursday, God willing.

    I'll take all the prayers people are willing to give.

    Hi Lefty

    Just think what a positive influence you have to those in need Lefty. An Island of hope & understanding to people in a time of Crisis in their lives. This is truly Gods Work.

    The rest is icing, to allow you respite for when the real work is needed.

    You have it in You to do what is needed, something many do not.

    He will look after You.

    Lefty, I think I stated it in your original thread when you announced you were Chaplin. IMHO, you have one of the hardest jobs in America....... The good you do even if you don't feel it now is simply immeasurable.

    May God bless you for all your charitable work.

    Here ya go, Lefty.

    Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

    "1. To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

    2. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to pluck up that which has been planted.

    3. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

    4. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

    5. A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, a time to refrain from embracing;

    6. A time to get, a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

    7. A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak;

    8. A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace."

    I don't know why, but I thought of this when I read your post and felt it may help you to put this in perspective.

    "In my season of doubt, you walk with me as though I have nothing to fear and I am comforted".

    (anonymous)

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Thanks DH, I was trying to remeber who said that, I didn't have time to search for it, but thank you for knowing what it was what I was going to go through. I am just where you said I would be, and without regret, just a little worn from the work, but hopefully having made a difference. Thank you so much. God bless you and my SG family.

    Boy...tough to swallow. Kinda reminds me of what my mom told me years ago, she was an RN, early on worked at the local hospital, then a few doctors office. A few years later, at one of the nursing homes around here. That was a tough one for her...nursing home, think about it. People are going in there towards the end of their time...often for a fairly long stay. As staff, you get attatched to them. Then their time comes. It's a constant loss for the staff there.

    What DH said is true, remember that.

    The best advice I can give is to be a rock solid pillar for those involved. Never ever take your job home in a bad way. Talk to your best friend which obviously is your wife. She'll be there for you I'm sure and of course we will too.

    Lefty,

    We all get discouraged at different times when the load seems too much...and you certainly came to the right place for encouragement! Never forget you.. with your kindness, compassion, and empathy....always make this world a little better place to be in. Being of service to others imho...is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon us mere mortals...but mortals we are..and the Powers that be know that as well. Read "Footprints" my friend....you are not alone!!
