    The mysterious Red Button

    I have a mini fridge about 2 feet tall. In the middle of the temp knob there is a pressable red button. What does it do? I pressed it and i dsont knwo what happened

    Would you believe that I was the marketer for that control in Asia, many years ago?

    It is probably a Ranco F25, and the refrigerator probably uses a hot gas defrost system. Pushing the button operates a valve that bypasses the condensor and expansion valve, introducing hot gas directly from the coompressor into the cooling coil to defrost it.

    Even though it's true red buttons are made in Hong Kong.

    well red is nor a hot sign so i would say its a defrost or like other said a reset button

    Well, I really was. Worked in engineering (in USA, that control was from the German plant as I recall) then was Director of Marketing for Asia. The firm has been acquired, and the acquirer acquired, and they just shut down the last USA manufacturing.

    You guys were all right... Later in the night i noticed a big hunk of ice on top of my beers and water all over them. Heh, immediatly turned it off... Heh
