You want a Centrino Based Notebook if you are concerned about battery life.
    Respect it.

you can also save some money on the initial sale by going low on items that are easily upgradable by you later when you have the money (small/slower HDD, less memory, cheaper battery, etc).

If your're not going to game the video card is fine but I suggest at least a gig of ram for multimedia and multitasking purposes.

Purchase it with the minimum ram you can buy and then head online and buy some more ram at a cheaper price.

The worst mistake in my opinion was purchasing an extra battery at $150 or so bucks for my Inspiron 8200. I used it on the go but always had power sources available for a quick recharge if needed via a tower racks, docking stations or wall outlets....even at Starbucks.

That's just me tho. I never drained my battery for the time I used it. And also I have a P3 2.2 Inspiron and an XPS. The P3 drops from 2.2 ghz to 1 ghz while using the battery. Food for thought.
