i386\setup\setup.exe error with W2K service pack

After reformatting and re-installing Windows 2000 (SP1) on my second computer, I went to run windows update and was installing service pack 3 and I get the following error:

    extraction failed
the system cannot find the file specified

The error happens when it's extracting i386\setup\setup.exe to the c:\704cade directory

I tried SP2 and 4 and get the same error.

I googled it and found all kinds of info relating to slipstreaming, but couldn't find a simple fix for the issue.

Could anyone help me out getting this remedied ?

Thanks in advance for all the help !!!!

Nevermind folks. Went thru the reformat/reinstall process and it took this time.

Don't install service packs via windows update. Install win2k, then follow that w/ sp4. Get the full sp4 here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...p4/default.asp
Service packs are cumulative, the latter include the earlier fixes.

    don't use Express installation
