    Air Purifiers

So anyone got one here? Wondering how much they go for and what a good one is. My mother did an allergy test and its positive for animal dander and dust.

We have a very dusty house and a cat, so I want to look into a way to fix the air a bit.

The best way is to hook up a filter unit to the Furnace. That way it cleans the whole house.

In lieu of that I have a trion unit that has served me well although the motor burnt out on it originally and I replaced that and then the new one burnt out, but I've had it for 4 years. I think the motors burning out had more to do with the fact that I clean the unit out only when I replace the burnt out motors though.

Electrostatic filter at the air handling unit or something similar should work best. Good pleated filters at the return air intakes should help some as well.

Pisses me off. Not only is it confusing.

But about a year or so ago when I asked to have my name changed from Agentbeast to Scott. I was told that I couldn't because the Scott name was taken and that while the person didn't post they used the other services so I had to pick a different name. Now Snuf says "I want to change my name to Scott" and it's done? I was robbed!

I use an Oreck and it is pretty nice. People that come over always mention on how the air is so clean. I ask about the house having a smell, and it is basically 100% odorless. Our house doesn't have "one of those smells" that most people have.

Air quality was one of our main concerns when our house was being built. We went with a Honeywell Enviracare elite system that uses these filters:

It works great, or at least as good as it gets considering we have thick carpet and a black lab for a house dog.

You know how you have those filters in there that you are supposed to replace every month?

Well instead of that you get this huge cartrige thing that you replace once a year or so depending on how bad your house is. Does a fantastic job.

    Here
    http://www.trion.co.uk/residential.asp

UK, but they have similar crap in the US.

Edit: Well that isn't exactly what I'm talking about but...

What I'm talking about is a box thing that has this big filters that sits between the furnace and the cold air return.

Actually that last one there the HE Plus would probably do the trick.

Yeah you do. It's the thing in the closet or basement or garage that "handles" the air moving through your duct system. AKA furnace in your case. Depending on how your system is set up, you could have one installed in the duct work, as long as it is accessible for filter changes. Really depends on how much you want to spend.
