Thumbs up Went to a Microsoft TechNet Briefing

and walked away with a FREE copy of Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, fully licensed and 25 CAL's. Did the math, that's almost 5grand in free licensing now I need a new server! (or a client to install it for!)

Was that the briefing on upgrading NT networks (& Exchange) to 2003 & clustering stuff? I'm signed up for one coming up on March 3rd down in south florida and those were the topics.. I've been sorta wonderin' what their giveaway will be.. I have a dual P3 server with no OS for it yet..

edit: nevermind.. I just checked and its all the same for winter:

The following topics are covered in every session:

    Upgrade to 2003 Windows Server

    Migrating NT4 LOB Applications

    Exchange Upgrade Migration

Damn, I hope they are giving away the same thing at the one I'm attending.

yup, thats the exact one i went to.

I'm stoked, they used to just giove away the evaluation stuff, but this is the real deal. It's a NFR (not for resale) license but it's fully legal to put into a production enviornment, and the 25 CALs is a nice little add!

    thats awesome! Now I'm stoked..

of course with my luck they will be out of those NFR's and all they'll have left are evaluation copies on my stint of the tour..

btw, how was the briefing? Very informative? Good presentation? Boring as hell?

It was a door prize. The briefings are way cool and go into real life scenarios with full functioning demos. I've been to at least a dozen of them, they rock.

TS2 is where everyone gets the things like SBS2k3 premium or XP or office 2k3 pro, the list goes on.

Kold if you've never been to one I do recommend taking the time and do it.

    Yeap, agreeing with Sid...

Philip and I usually hit the ones that come to Tampa and Orlando. I have received many good things and have also won extra prizes such as cordless optical mouse, etc... I could not name all of the things...

    Informative and prosperous...

You can be put on their email list and they will alert you to all of the different seminars, TS2, Partners, Labs, etc...

I've been to 1 briefing last year but my coworker and I had to leave about half hour into it and I've never been to one of the TS events.. Back in my retail days I went to almost every Microsoft Retail RoadShow that came to town.. Picked up all sorts of goodies from them including Win2000 pro, office 2000 premium etc etc. I do need to start going to more, it just sucks because my current employer doesn't pay me to go so I have to use personal vacation time.

During the event they will have usually 4 presentations. TS2(technical sales), Technet(IT pro), MSDN(software development) and touch point(overview of their new software)

You may sign up for any of them, however TS2 requires you to show that you are a business owner. This is sometime verified by asking you for a business card and sometimes not. You will also be required to be a MS partner(free). You want to attend this one

If you take a Technet briefing then they will cover such things as exchange server disaster recovery, migrating from nt or 2k to server or sbs2k3. They will get pretty deep into their software and how to work with it to make the network function.

No matter what the briefing is about you will walk a way with tremendous amount of knowledge.
