Internet Connection sharing without proxy on Win2k Server?

    Hi,

I want to give the internet connection sharing from my win2k server ( without running any PDC or Active Directory ) to some of my lan systems running win98 OS via TCP/IP but have some problem & need help in this regard.

When my server is connected to the internet & all the specific systems on lan using shared internet connection to access the internet via my server than I'm unable to see the shared drives of the lan system on my lan. Although the option from where I active the shared internet connection option, before this option there is a line which read's as " Local network operation may be momentarily disrupted ", now my question is how can I using shared network connection without disturbing lan connection from my win2k server?

    Hope all above is understandable.

If need some further info, then pls let me know.

Awaiting helpful reply / guideness as always.

    Regards / Sulman

    Just get a router.
    Offloads the sharing job
Gives you protection from NAT, especially important for a server, you NEVER want a server plugged directly into your broadband modem without a robust firewall of sorts.

With a little NAT router, you keep it simple, and you treat your server similar to any workstation on your LAN. Just give your server a static LAN IP address, let the router or servers DHCP handle the clients.

2x NICs in the server correct? 1x to the internet, and 1x to a LAN switch?

    Hi,

    here one more question.

I'm also using my win2k server as RAS i.e clients dial in to this server from their home's to check the files / e-mails. If I use 2 NICs then is there any effect of 2 NICs on RAS dial in?

When a user remotely connect to my win2k server via modem then how can I deticate one NIC to act as a gateway for the entire lan for the connected user?

I'm confused here? Pls help me out.

    Regards / Sulman
