In most areas, a person cannot survive on min. wage alone.

most college students must work to pay for school, books, and food. Many times, the min. wage jobs they get BARELY pays for anything

Don't you know that raising the minimum wage in NY, without raising the minimum wage in NJ or CT will cause MANY a business (specially small businesses) to jump ship and move across the border, it's just common sense for them to do that! Prices will sky rocket, as if they weren't bad already. This is just another reminder telling me to get the hell out of this area. NY wages are as low as they are because it's basically a seller's market, too many people and not enough jobs. It doesn't help that NYC is HQ for the biggest, strongest Unions (and who knows how many of them are Mob-supported), and that real estate and taxes (think Welfare & Section 8 combined) are astronomical. This all relates to the demand that NYC's overpopulation creates. Any "expert" who advocated for the increase must be on some social activist's payroll. This will put a lot of people that are "on the bubble" onto the unemployment line instead.

It's cheaper to pay 10 people some overtime than 12 people 40hrs/week. We're screwed!!

    McDonalds is gunna close?

Janitorial firms won't operate within the state of New York?

No companies that really pay a decent wage will really be affected.

They made all these same arguments when the minimum wage was raised to 6.75. Nothing happened how they said it was, instead the dot com busted, everything else stayed the course

Oh and everything about businesses moving across the state line is stupid. By the time the business is fully moved minimum wage would hange again, and companies know this.

    LMFAO!!! Smart ass!!!!

I didn't realize that CD hat such a high MW. Many small business will not be able to afford to pay their employees that minimum wage without also marking up their prices/rates as well, like I said, things are expensive enough as it is in this damn city, this is the last thing we need.
