Need some help with boot issue ...

I am in the process of getting my gf's daughter's computer back up and running. She had all kinds of spyware & virii on it and I had to do a repair using the XP disk.

I have it back up and running and ran Adaware 6 and Giant AntiSpyware on it and got all kinds of garbage off it.

The problem I am having now is that I have a window that pops up when booting that says that the bkmsf32.dat file is missing or corupt.

Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? I did a search on Google without much luck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Adware.EliteBar installs itself as an Internet Explorer toolbar and redirects search requests.

The files are detected as Adware.EliteBar.

This adware program must be manually installed. However, some programs may have Adware.EliteBar within them and install it as the programs themselves are installed.

    File names: winoko32.exe; Winjnp32.exe; Bkmsf32.dat; EliteBar version xx.dll

When Adware.EliteBar is executed, it does the following:

Downloads and executes two files from, and saves them as C:\Winupdate.exe and C:\Ed.exe.

Creates some of the following files:

%Windir%\EliteBar\EliteBar version xx.dll, where xx is a number.

Adds one of the following values:

    to the registry key:

so that the adware runs when you start Windows.

    Adds the following registry keys:

to hold configuration data for the adware.

    Adds the following registry keys:

so that the adware displays a toolbar in Internet Explorer.

    Creates multiple files in C:\WINNT\EliteBar.

Depending on the response the adware receives from the server, it may change the Internet Explorer home and search pages, add links to the Internet Explorer Favorites, or modify the system hosts file.

The following instructions to remove adware

    Update the virus definitions.
Close all the open Internet Explorer windows.
    Run a full system scan.
Reverse the changes that were made to the registry.
Delete any added lines from the system Hosts file.
Reset the Internet Explorer home page.
Reset the Internet Explorer search page.
