    Question Outlook 2000 Issue

Got a staff member here where I work who sends out mass emails from time to time to friends. For some reason or another her email isnt letting her send out these emails if any of the addresses are inaccurate. My own experiences with Outlook has been that it sends out the emails, but returns "Undeliverable" from addresses that are inaccurate.

How can I set it up to do this?

Hmmm....NDRs are usually just a function of the SMTP server.

How is this person setup, POP3 Internet only? Or Exchange, or weren't you guys using one of those Cobalt RaQs? Assuming she has the "reply to" address filled in, in the Internet Mail connection settings?

Our Qube Cobalt email server crashed and burned. I need to check with the company that is temporarily hosting our email to see exactly what the setup is. I am guessing it's Exchange though.

PM'd ya. If another place is hosting your mail, it's most likely just POP3, you'd know if you had an Exchange server onsite, and you'd have to reconfigure Outlook on everyones desktop.

ok..it appears there is some kind of issue with email. If you dont have it by tomorrow morning let me know if you remember. We are trying to find out what is going on with that.

PM me the POP3 and SMTP server info you're supposed to be using. Not user/pass, just server names.

And in the PM, your actual e-mail address there.

Yeah they just flipped the DNS to alias their own servers, kept the same name as your Qube had. When did it croak?

You're setup on just POP3 Internet.

You get your bandwidth from Mindspring? What happens if you use CC&M for your SMTP also? Mindspring not being very present up in my area, I don't know if they block outgoing SMTP or not.

Doesnt work when we use CCM for SMTP also. We gave that a shot earlier. This one is weird because it will go most of the day working fine, and then all of a sudden it will weird out. Makes troubleshooting very difficult.

Well, since your Qube had a breakdown (hard drive? most of the ones I've seen use Seagates super budget drive...the "U-Series") the setup you now have makes sense. Hosting outside with someone else, who simply redirected your Qube DNS name to their virtual mail server for the time being.

How is your network running DNS? Any old ones still caching the IP address of your Qube? Or is everyone now pinging to the CC&M server when they type in the POP3 mail server name?

As for SMTP, it's the usual convention now to use the SMTP servers of "whoever provides your bandwidth". Granted their often ridden with hiccups if it's the local phone company giving it...but with most ISPs blocking outgoing SMTP now and then, if not full time, in the battle to fight spam, that's what we're stuck with. Some are even implementing "My outgoing mail server requires authentication".

I'm wondering if Reverse DNS is an issue here also...

e-mail just rolled in. Wow that took a while, over 1 hour.

Oops, in reading header, I kept saying "mindspring" when it's earthlink.
