    drive unsalvagable? dmg security sector?

Left the room for a min and when I came back windows was at the loading screen (not where I left it) and it seemed to be in an endless loop. windows would not load at all. So I figured to hell with it I'll format it. But the format would never complete (even after i deleted and re-created main partition) so I did a scan/check disk (scanned surface) and what do ya know, that would not complete either. So I took it out, hooked it up to my mothers comp and used Norton disk Doctor. That said that there was an unknown error in the security sectors. I have no idea what the security sectors are on that hard drive (WD 100gb). Can anyone offer some insite?
It seems I can still drag files to the drive but what if I hit a bad sector? I'm lost... Help?

Could a virus damage the security sector on a hard drive?

I believe WD has a utility you can download to check it out, should diagnose it for you.

Never heard of the error you posted.

Well I downloaded the utility and the first scan came back with "unknown error". LMAO

I'm going to do some hunting on the WD site though, maybe post on the message boards or view the knowlege base. That HD is only about 1 yr. old and I'm not about to let 100gigs of space to end up in the can...

RMA it to them... data recovery should be possible with a utility like active@ software's recovery software.
