    after it installed it asked to reboot i did that

    on the reboot i get this

    windows couldnt start because the following file is missing or corrupt;
    system32\drivers\pci.sys

    you can attempt to repair this file from the windows setup useing the windows repair

    so i put the wndows cd back in and i get this after a min or so

    windows setup

    file ______ couild not be loaded the error code is ___
    the set up can not cotinue press any key to exit

    some time the file is
    setupdd.sys code 4
    or
    ntkrnimp.exe code 7

    i did i google search for the errors but didnt find anything useful for xp it looked like what i found was for sp 4 and 5 for other windows os
    help is thanked in advance
    if nothing else how do u formatt the hd before you install windows so i can have a clean hd and start over

    You have the option to format the drive during Windows setup.

    Strange...can you boot with say a 98 floppy and try and format?

    Could be that it's a hardware problem.

    Do you have the pcmcia cards out of the system? If this machine has removable memory try reseating it or removing it if the mainboard has onboard memory. Try running memtest86
