Yep - update IE - at least cipher str. The outta da box for 5.x isn't 128bit, which will cause what you describe.

Have fun grabbing that on dialup - yikes

open IE > help > about IE > cipher strength(encryption level thingy)

try installing firefox and see if it can get to secure sites.

Still looking for a way to reinstall IE in ME, I think 98se was the last flavor you could uninstall IE from the add/remove programs panel.

edit: yep, there is no repair option - http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winme

    5.5 sp2 for winME -

Ok its up to 128 bit cipher strength

but the last 2 files security.dll and secur32.dll didnt work, fails to load security.dll, and with secur32 it tells me it was loaded but the entrypoint was not found.

does it give you any error numbers or what ?? what is the exact error it is giving you.

I htink I had this problem with xp and the solution was to remove root certificates and reinstall it but it may not be the same for ME.

    Security.dll

    LoadLibrary(c:\windows\system\security.dll) failed.

    GetLastError returns 0x00000485

    No error number for secur32.dll

did you try to extract them again ??

and system file protection should catch corrupt files.

I have to go to the bank, I'll be back in a min. to help ya look for a fix.

for windows 98/ME, try clicking Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information, and then selecting Tools > System File Checker from the Microsoft System Information toolbar.

Its not an option, as is usually the case. Too much critical stuff without the original CDs.
