best video card for between 350-450?

I'm looking at either a X800 PRO or Leadtek nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Video Card.

If $450 is your top end, why not just spend the extra $50 and get the Ultra or XT PE?

The 6800 Gt is the best Bang I think .

From what I understand the only difference between the GT and the Ultra is speed based ...

The X 800 Pro has only 12 Pipelines .. where the Equivilent 6800 GT has all 16 pipelines , plus the newer Shaders ...

If I were buying today ? It would be the 6800 GT.

Although the X800Pro , may level with the 6800 GT in pure hardware tests. Most Games are designed with , for , and around Nvidia. Therefore most game will play best on those Cards.

I'm upgrading a 9800pro. I dont need top of the line and this is looking really nice for the money:

finding it hard to justify the extra $230, but wanted to ensure it was enough of an upgrade to make it worth my while.

Zooner . Her eis a clip to think about ...

Benchmark Summary: We ran a total of 51 different benchmarks on all 6 of the cards we tested. Subtracting the three configurations in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory that weren't cooperative, we have 48 different results where we can compare the AX800 Pro's performance to it's main competition, the GeForce 6 series. When compared to the GeForce 6800 GTs ($399 MSRP), the AX800 Pro "won" 11 tests and "lost" 28, with 9 that were too close to call. As expected, when we make the same comparison to NVIDIA's similarly configured 12-Pipe GeForce 6800 card, however, the AX800's win percentage is much better. When compared to the GeForce 6800 ($299), the AX800 Pro ($470) "wins" 34 tests, versus 12 "losses" and 2 "draws". But where the AX800 Pro/TD excelled was in the tests when anti-aliasing and Anisotropic filtering were enabled concurrently, which is probably the desired configuration with a card of this caliber.

You are mistaken, I was able to take the BFGTech 6800GT OC past 6800Ultra stock speeds easily: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjM3LDk=

most GT's I've seen reach up to or beyond 6800U speeds

You'll be alot happier playing BFV with that card that you would be with your ATI. Plus those WC3 Hero's will look pretty damn good with some High AA/AF cranking.
