Unhappy [Resolved]Geil value memory + Gigabyte K8NS Pro: hard lockups

    [edit]
Resolved. I simply edited the memory settings in the BIOS manually. Duh@me.

    hola!

I just bought some new hardware: Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro mobo, 1GB (2x512) GEIL DDR@400 and an AMD Athlon64 3000+

Problem I'm having is that I can't run the memory at 400 Mhz when both sticks are connected. If I leave the BIOS set to Automagically detect the speed of the memory, it detect 166 (333Mhz) when both stick are in. If I manually set it to 200, then I either get hard lockups or fail to POST, until I set it to Auto again or remove one of the sticks.

After some reading, I found that it was a known issue and F2 BIOS update resolved the issue (but my mobo shipped with F2) so I upgraded the BIOS to F4. No joy.

Just hoping someone else has experience with this hardware or knows of a fix.

    Thanks

whats wrong with running it slightly lower than 400? Say 388?

Well, I just wanted 1:1 ratio and afterall, that was the reason I bought 400 memory anyway... I couldn't run both sticks at any speed higher than 333 without the system hanging. But it's fine now, all I needed to do was manually change the memory settings in the BIOS.
