    Windows XP SP2 RC2

    Hi folks
The long awaited Windows XP SP2 - RC2 is now available for d/l (be warned it is huge)
Go here to get it. There are specific steps to follow so please read carefully.
Be warned, it is STILL beta so don't blame/flame me if your PC goes up in flames...lol
We now return to our regular programming.
    Cheers

I'm working with Microsoft Online Assistance now. Keep on getting an error message:

"cannot display the requested page error with the 0x80070005 error code"

My rule of thumb is one year after public release - but I guess there's value in getting the headache-exposure earlier on
anything is possible - nothing is free

I am going to do that from now on cyber. I followed the instructions. I had a problem and just ended up grabbing a restore point from a few days ago. I am ok now. I WILL wait!

When it is the final release, I'll probably wait a month or two to install it.

I won't be pressured to install it the day it is released.

    No Pressure from me

Good for you CableD and Debbie..you are not the only one having problems with RC2
I have installed it on a test mule PC and it is working fine, so if it crashes I can always rebuild or restore my backup. It is NOT installed on my regular PC or laptop.
RC2 and all further iterations will not install on machines that have activation numbers that have the "642" or "646" in the activation number.
xxxxx-64x-xxxxxxx-xxxxx. It works like the original SP1, but more aggressive in its checking.
I placed this notification here as it has more to do with changing the "security" features of the OS (firewall more robust, popup blocker and its own security center and IE changes)than with anything else.
The more people know about it, the more information will become available to potential users, whenever the official version comes out in July 2004.
    Cheers

I think that it is good that M$ is "trying" to help out users...

I keep hearing rumors that the final pack will "take out".
"hacked" copies and shared serials, of Win XP copies.
It will be interesting to see if that happens.

Yeah, I heard from Microsoft this morning from another person:

    Hello Deborah,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service.

I realize that you might be still experiencing difficulty with accessing Windows Updates.

From the information you have provided us it appears that you have downloaded Windows XP SP2 which is why you are been routed to the new Windows update site (V5). This Windows Update site is a Beta product of Microsoft. Support for beta products is available through no-charge online support services including:

The Knowledge Base, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), Online Newsgroups more information is available at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx

However, though I am not a Technical Support Professional I have found a workaround which might resolve your issue. Please follow the steps below:

    >> Type or copy, paste the URL which I has provided below
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Deborah, I hope the information I provided you is helpful.
