My wife and I are heading to Colorado this week and will be there for about 6 days. We are planning on doing some stuff in the mountains, but this is not quite prime season. They are in between the thaw and the warm months. So, everything is not open yet.
We are wanting to do some white water rafting and mountain biking in the mountains. However, I'm not quite sure who has some great trails that are accessible this time of year. Many resorts have them on their mountains, but they are closed until it gets warmer. I am thinking a WWR trip on one day and a bike tour on another.
If anyone really knows Colorado well and the places to go this time of year, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

Yes, and I have a restraining order to prove it.
So, you like Colorado more than I do, eh?Originally Posted by Burke

Try Pitkin Colorado. My brother used to live there and I visited him. Amazing place and really an excellent vacation spot...

Thanks for the link, Bouncer. My wife and I were in Poncha Springs a couple years ago for some mountain biking on the Continental Divide Trail. It was pretty awesome. Nice area, for sure.
I just booked us on a "full-day extreme" Whitewater Rafting trip on Clear Creek (http://www.raftingcolorado.com/clearcreek.cfm#chart). It looks pretty awesome (read: hardcore). They hit Class V rapids.
We're going to rent some mtn bikes one of the other days we're there and bike around Dillon or something like that. Also, some Rocky Mountain Oysters in Severence will be eaten, some Buffalo burgers in Idaho Springs, and some automatic guns will be shot while we're there.
It's going to be a good time.
Wohoo!!
Idaho is the whitewater rafting state....
Maybe some of the lower places will be dry enough for biking...have a blast.
Ever been to a ski lift in the summer that caters to bikes?
That's where my nym comes from.![]()
Hey Downhill:
I would love to head to Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming someday for some major mountain biking. I have done LOTS of downhill at Winter Park, Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, Keystone, Crested Butte, Pagosa Springs, Steamboat, and a few other places in Colorado. I love it, man. Nothing beats a free ride to the top.
I snowboarded in Arapahoe Basin, CO in 1999 on June 6th. It was pretty awesome to snowboard one day and then go biking the next.
Man, I hate Ohio.

I'm about an hours drive to a river that for 23 miles is nothing but...class 4 and 5 rapids...
Kayaks and catarafts only....I don't think anyone's tried to run it in a raft..
Been to southern Utah on a bike trip one time..had a lot of fun but man...all that peddling....Moab is a LOT of fun..
That SOUNDS like a lot of peddling. You should have DRIVEN to S. Utah and rode your bike once you got there. Duh!Originally Posted by downhill
J/k... but that rivers sounds like fun. I prefer the packaged tours, though, thank you very much. Heh.
..........Legs of steel, mind of mush....
Packaged tours? Expensive but wonderful....The Middle Fork of the Salmon river.
It's kind of hard to get on it now it's so popular, but at one time when I was a kid...it was hardly used.

Being on the east for so long it brings me joy to hear that. Mountainman will need boots about thigh high.
The Red Rocks outside of Bennet are nice.
