I know a lot of people here were interested in this, I was one, after researching i'm pretty confident about the Whirlpool AP45030HO.
I think next month this is the one i'm going to get. It costs $260, and is filter based, it can use a HEPA filter ($90) that lasts a year, or non HEPA filters that cost ($12) that last 6 months.
It is consumer reports #2 top pick. Their #1 top pick is the $500 Friedrich C-90A which is just a wee bit too rich for my blood.
One of my deciding criteria was how good it is at filtering dust. The whirlpool one ranks 4/5 on filtering dust while the Friedrich ranks 5/5.
Anyways, maybe that will help some others out there looking into them as well.
