Problem with Linksys and public hotspots

I have a Linksys wireless G notebook adapter and it works great at home with my linksys wireless broadband router. However when I'm travelling I can never detect a signal in public areas that are designated wireless access points. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you use WEP/WPA at home? If so, your client sw may be able to save profiles. Try creating one that uses no auth/crypto.
