Unhappy Connection speed ok but downloads are slow? Please Help!

    Hello again!

Ok, I have a 1.5Mb Cable Internet connection and every speed test I use shows I am connected at 1500k or better. So I am obviosly getting my full bandwidth.
Web pages pop open instantly and streaming video plays fast, clear and steady like I am watching a DVD.

The problem is that when I download things like Quake3Arena maps, programs, files, ect... I download a about 10% or 20% of my potential.
Downloads started at around 210k transfer rate then droped to about 95k.
Then I used the TCP/IP Optimizer and now downloads start out between 300k to 400k transfer rate then drop to about 175k.
Still not to my full potential!
As I understand it with a 1.5Mb connection I should in therory download at 1500k transfer rate as long as the web sites I am downloading from don't cap downloads. Right?

My computer is fast and powerfull enugh to accept much faster downloads so I don't think my system is limiting my transfer rate and the speed tests show I am getting excelent speed and proper bandwidth.
So what might be the problem and how do I fix it?

    Thanks!

NO you are only going to 187kbs you are confusing bits and bytes there is 8 bits and bytes. Also all ftp downloads do that I wouldn't go buy that. Plus you never see 100 percent of capp rate so you are in range i wouldn't worry about it.

Oh, yea. I forgot to pay attention to the difference between "kb" and "KB".

So what you are saying is the 175 transfer rate I am seeing translates into 1400 because you multiply by eight for bit to byte conversion right?

Thus I am accually downloading very close to my rated speed.

Do I have it right now?
