Ok, I tried a trace route with SG's network tools and it just hung there @ the 1/2 way mark
Ran the trace route via CMD and it also just got stuck during the trace. Finally after it completed the trace, my numbers were outrageously high which is not normal.

I've tried it all. My last resort is a format, and i'm not sure if I wanna do that. This clean installed os is less than a month old.

    What should I do?

Let's try a few more tests, we might still be able to get to the bottom of this, and the problem might not be fixed by a reformat.

Here is a ping from the server to you:

    traceroute 24.194.x.x
traceroute to 24.194.x.x (24.194.x.x), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

    .....

There is no visible problem going out, it reaches RR in 16ms.

Since the end of May we switched DNS, now we use external name servers... Can you please try someting ?

in your HOSTS file, enter the following:

    63.217.30.70 www.speedguide.net
    63.217.30.71 forums.speedguide.net

and see if it makes any difference ?

Dino, try Mozilla 1.4 just to rule out that it may only be IE. My Mozilla fly's and IE just sits here looking totally stupid. I think it's retarded after so many patches. Now you have to click refresh a few times just to get anything to load.

    No changes yet .

I tried Avant and Slim too, but they are IE based hence I still have the same problem. That's exactly why I think Microsoft screwed up in one of the critical updates. Step away from the IE platform entirely and see if it doesn't make a difference.

I wish I could do a split screen shot of I.E. and Mozilla loading with a stop watch in the middle, then everyone could see what you and I are seeing. I'm telling ya, I.E. is somehow screwed up and we aren't the only 2 complaining about it.

    Holly crappola

Moz is screamin, now is it IE directly or an issue with php.

I dont know, I guess I can get used to this, but I do prefer IE interface....hummm
Must be loading ten times fast, will tryi it for a day or two

Something else I'm noticing, when I back page in IE after making a post it gives me page can not be displayed. Moz takes me back to the post window...just like IE used to.
Wonder if its an IE issue with this version of VBulletin????

When did this start happening for you guys ? Do any of the following dates coincide ?

May 28th - server crashed, reinstalled linux with Apache 2
June 17th - changed some of the ad display code on the forums.

It's always been reasonably fast from my end, IE6, Win2k, and I'm 1000 miles away on RR as well.

Is it just the forums or the main site as well ?

I'm thinkin back around the server crash, not positive though because most of the time I attribute it to my kids DL'ing stuff as I have two teenage boys with there own machines.

Try Mozilla yourself Philip and see if there is any diff on your end

Mine's been generally slow for about a month or so. Not sure of the dates. But it hasn't been as bad as some have reported (no errors or anything). Seems pretty fast (comparatively) today.

Trying Mozilla right now on my junker computer at the office. An old PII 400 with Win2K. I vowed never to use Nutscrape again since they went to the Gecko engine in version 6, so I cringed installing this, but I'm gonna replace this machine anyways shortly.

Speed impressions...overall seems about the same. It delays for a bit..then snaps the page up quickly (to me...giving the impression of speed), whereas IE doesn't have that initial delay, but takes a whisker longer building the page. I'm sitting here clicking back and forth of the forums between both windows.

Haven't had any problems to speak of from this end...here's a trace route just to compare:

    Tracing route to forums.speedguide.net [63.217.30.71]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 13 ms 11 ms 9 ms 10.144.192.1
    2 12 ms 9 ms 13 ms 172.30.59.17
    3 10 ms 9 ms 10 ms 172.30.59.58
    4 11 ms 10 ms 10 ms 68.57.192.50
    5 14 ms 17 ms 25 ms 12.125.142.105
    6 17 ms 43 ms 14 ms gbr6-p80.cgcil.ip.att.net [12.123.5.222]
    7 15 ms 16 ms 19 ms tbr1-p013601.cgcil.ip.att.net [12.122.11.45]
    8 65 ms 48 ms 18 ms ggr2-p300.cgcil.ip.att.net [12.123.6.33]

    15 43 ms 41 ms 67 ms 63-217-30-71.sdsl.cais.net [63.217.30.71]

    Trace complete.

    Times all look decent...

Maybe a routing issue? Any common routers between those that are having problems?

True, the message window is small, but I'd rather deal with this than the delay, hanging and "404" from IE6.

Ya think it's an IE6 probelm? I haven't updated since I did a clean install of windowz and did all the critical updates. It was running perfect b4, then this.
