Angry Well this just goes to show how my week went.

Rough week, I've done plenty bitching about it already.

Well, I decide to come home and crank up some Rammstien as loud as it will go. So I'm sitting on the sofa taking it all in, the walls are shaking, I can hear the windows ratteling, and then *poof* one woofer goes out. Before I could get to the amp to turn it off, the shorted woofer took it out too.

Now my entire house smells like burnt, hairy ass.

Christ man, I just can't freaking win.

Bad news indeed...a guy has to have tunes....

Something I can help with? What driver?

The amp, your on your own....was it fused?
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

I cooked a woof in my right main about a week ago. So I went and bought a new pair, havin the other repaired. Since I was at the dealer, I got 2 200 watt monoblocks to prevent such things from happening again. Now I'm gonna have 4 reference monitors up front, bi-amped and all clean, can't wait to let em rip with a nice SACD title.

Well I only have about 150 watts RMS at the speakers. But it's real power from a Kenwood parametric amp. I'm also bi-amped, the kenwood runs the subs and I have a Sony running the highs/mids. Only about 50 watts RMS useable from the Sony, but thats 50 watts times 5 channels.

I have six seperates for the highs/mids, two speakers are in parallel on the center channle and the two 12 inch subs are in a bandpass enclosure.

So I have about 400 watts rms, real power, going into 14 drivers. It gets a little loud.

I just went and pushed on the woofer, it's all crunchy now, when I push it in and out. Must have really wasted the voice coil.

    3 days later...

4:00 AM...Police stop mto investigate a parked car that is shaking and bouncing up and down...as they approach car gthey notice thumping loud bass lines...shine flashlight into window and discover a man in tears, bobbing his head up and down and singing "I miss my subs". Foryunately, this team of cops also are members in a local punk band and understand this man's emotional attachment to his sound system. They give him free tickets to their next performance at a hotspot called "The Bondaged Man"...

Woohoo! Just pulled the woofer and it let the amp kick back on. I guess the shorted voice coil shut it down. The other woofer will only play if I press it down some. I guess I broke the lead-in wire on back of it from swinging it too far.

Woofers come and go, but I've had that amp for about 15 years now. I would hate to blow it up. I did put heavy duty finals in it at one point, doesn't give it any more power, but it sure as hell makes it take more abuse. I just realized I figured the wattage wrong too, the sub amp puts out 75 watts @ 8 ohms. I'm running it at 4 ohms so it's putting out roughly twice that amount, since it's a high current design.

So I have roughly 550 watts in my living room.
