    Chimm, great advice. Thanks

Roundeye, I use to be the punching bag for my older brothers...lol... When we were children we'd kick box everyone all the time just for fun. oh, the good ol days..

Mountianman, My dad was a black belt back in the day too. My mom made it to brown as well and it was some good ol ass kicking sparring tournements. My dad was very quick.

Norm, your right again. I know the best offence is a good defence. I'm getting really nervious...lol.. that'll keep me on edge for sure!
As I was sparring the last coupole of days I noticed just that, I don't think, I just do it.
My sinse told me friday that he believes I will come home with first place in the sparring and the forms have something left to be desired. It's all good ya only live once so I figured what the hell.

DHD, physical aspect of relationships are tame in comparioson to the built in hardwired emotional erraticism of females.....lol j/k

Thankls for the well wishes guys I am really nervious today, butterflys in the stomach and feel weak....lol

Did you ever get to watch either of them spar or compete ?

I just remember watching him and thinking how COOL it was. There aren't a lot of times when you get to see your hero kick someone's tail around. LOL

My mom was badass too. The studio we went to (when I was in second grade) use to spar alot.

That is exactly how I felt at the time. My dad actually did most of his studying before I was born from age 18-23, but when I was about 10 or so, he went back into it with myself and my brother. That is when we saw him.

    It rocked.

Your kid is really cute too, BTW.

Laura is talking about the future now. It may be as soon as next year when we start to "make a baby". For now, we'll just stick to practice for the "big game".

    Congrats.

I won 2 of 3 bouts... if I would have won the third bout I would have at least placed... next time Now I know what to work on.

Kitten and our boy lost the first bouts so they couldnt continue.
Youngest daughter won 1st place in sparring!

All in all it was one of the best events I have ever been too.

The Black belt sparring was nothing less than amazing and the weapons was psycho!!!

    Here's the little brut!

Here she is with her sinse and trophy!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun Glad to hear it!

Next time your in a bout, here is something to remember:

Watch for the telegraphed movements. Shoulder movement and reflex movement.

The one thing as a Martial Artist I realize is that you have to expand your horizons to be good. Some Karate students are very linear in their movements, so if you side step the, they are usually open for a blow to the liver or even the face (if allowed).

Here is a trick for when they do hoove kicks at your head:

Block as if your carrying a box with two hands on your shoulder. If the kick gets passed the first arm, you'll need quick reflexes. Either way, you'll need to grab the kicking leg and kick the other one from underneath him.

It works in practise, but you need a bit of speed on your side.

Anyways congrats on your bout and on your daughters! Hope you had fun!

Best thing I have done formyself... lost 33lbs so far and self confidence is rising on as daily event. No so much that I am studying a Martial Art but more so for my mental welfare.
someone at your dojo is blowing smoke up your ass or seriously doesnt know what theyre talking about to tell you that youre learning all 3.

Judo, Aikido, and even Karate are all derivatives of Ju-Jitsu. unless its Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. which i seriously doubt as 99% of BJJ guys mock traditional stylest. believe me on this one.

Judo is the direct sport form of Ju-Jitsu.

    also

Ju-Jitsu, Jiu-Jitsu, and Ju-Jutsu are all accetable ways of spelling it, the most phonetically correct would be Ju-Jutsu. Jiu-Jitsu is the Brazilian way while Ju-Jitsu tends to be the American way.

    Congrads, John.

Sounds like the whole family had a lot of fun!
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

    Thumbs up

    Excellent John!!

I like a guy who takes the advice he asks for.

You are doing very good with this martial arts thing, keep up the good work. The side benifits are starting to show now too, as you mentioned re: confidence, and weight loss.

Winning matches is not why you joined, remember that

It doesn't matter. You're going to sweat so much in any martial arts class that it won't matter which style you take.

    oh, the pain lol

Sounds like it was a pretty successful afternoon.

    Congrats.

So is there room on your mantel place for her trophy or do you have to build her a case?
