you have the BIOS set to floppy first?
Ok, let me cut straight to the point. I downloaded a (bootscreen for XP)Ntoskrnl.exe from Themexp.org. It's the regular Windows XP bootscreen with a damn Pentium 3 logo at the top.. Anyway, after applying the boot screen through Safe mode.. after rebooting, I see the boot screen loading.... but after that, all I see is BLACK.... It doesn't load Windows!!! I've tried all the methods F8 gave me while booting up... I can't even get into Windows through SAFE MODE! I have a Windows XP boot disk but I don't know what to do @ the command prompt.

I'm currently at school right now.... I made a backup to the ntoskrnl.exe file, saved it to My Documents folder, inside a My Files folder. HOW do I replace it with the other one? I think the Devil Inside bootscreen has possessed my computer.......
But seriously... is it C:
CD DOCUME~1
CD USERN~1 I dont even know how many characters you need...
How would I find the file through DOS? Someone told me DIR /s ntoskrnl.exe but he wasnt sure.
My teacher told me its A:\> Copy C:\MyDocument\Ntoskrnl.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32
Is that right??
I'm counting on you guys.. please HELP!
Or... is it possible for someone to upload their Ntoskrnl.exe so I could save it to a disk... then somehow replace the current one I have in my System32 folder.... ???
Have you tried booting off the WinXP cd and running the "Repair Windows Installation" option?

I want to know if there is any way to take that copy, and replace the copy I currently have on my computer........ Sounds logical... Anyone know how to do that?

Is there anyway to run this repair option from the bootdisk?
I don't think so, unless you have the XP Cab files on your PC.Originally posted by EvilAjax

****... now it's too big for the damn floppy disk!![]()
Is there anyway to bypass this file while booting into Windows? It's the very first file to load too...
There has to be a way
Yup, as matter of fact I do... It's in my D: drive... ****, I forgot what the name was though... i386 or something?? CONO!!! This is what I get for messing with the boot screen....Originally posted by Prey521

it will still work if I move the zip to the floppy right?
How would I go about it if I wanted to perform the action I want to perform... replace the corrupt file in the System32 folder...
Send Sid a PM ASAP.
I bet $ he can tell you exactly what to do (if you can get in touch with him before you fix it yourself that is).
Sid saved my ass about a month ago...he's the man.
Sent.. damn... I dont think my teacher will let me stay in his computer class longer than I'm supposed to.... I'm doomed
Um... anyone know (where is NORM!?!?!?) the commands I would need to perform in order to copy the ntoskrnl.exe from the zip file John sent me to overwrite the one in my system32 folder? I think this will fix the problem.... I'm searching all over for the instructions but I cant find anything... found a few things, but nothing explaining my situation/
A> COPY ntoskrnl.exe C:\Windows\System32 (assuming it's been unzipped).
Yes to Overwrite.
This IS me talking, so take this advice with a couple grains of salt.
That's just the problem... it's like 30 KB too big to fit into the floppy unzipped.... ****!!!!!!!
Does anyone have a ntoskrnl.exe for XP UNDER 1MB? That isn't corrupt... ?
From bootdisk, is there anyway to perform some actions that would allow me to get into Windows???
Thanks for the replies thus far
is this a fat32 install of XP or a NTFS. also do you have SP1 installed or not?
She's presenting like a mandrill!
will fixboot c: work??
I just read it from http://www.winnetmag.com/Articles/In...leID=8957&pg=2
NTFS... I don't know why the computer store didnt install it as FAT32... and no, I have not installed no SP1 updates.... that I know of.
Again, clueless here.Originally posted by EvilAjax

Prey mentioned booting to the cd earlier.
Anyway you could borrow a disk from the school long enough to boot up?
Good grief, I have 9 copies of the file!
Several were included with themes.
Smallest is 1832 KB
