back from Mexico and back to work

Hey everyone:

Just thought I would let you all know that Laura and I made it home from Mexico this morning at about 1:30am. We were there from the 26th of December until then. It was pretty fun.

In general, I am pretty turned off from Mexico now. After my first trip there in 2001, I was really excited to go back and hang out in Melaque. However, after seeing this town and spending a lot of time in "real" Mexico, I am disappointed to see how dirty it is and the lack of effort to fix it.

Ah well. I now have my sights set on Spain and beyond for this coming summer.

I have about 170 photos or so, but they are at home. I will be getting them up within the next couple days or so on the website. A lot of them turned out very good.

Well...after 3 hours of sleep, I am here at work and VERY tired. This is after 21 hours of traveling. Blah.

Anyway...I'M BACK, BABY!!!

Glad you made it back and had a great time!! I would of been prepared for what 'real' Mexico was like. If they would clean up the country, It would be one of the prettiest around.

Cant wait to check out some of your pics!!

Would you recommend Melaque for a vacation spot? say a 5-7 days? or stick to some of the more popular places? The sites you posted in a thread before you left seemed pretty interesting into checking out.

Illini: I would recommend the place, I guess. However, it is a little on the dirty (read: smelly) side. Also, the beach is steep which causes the waves to break very close to shore. There isn't much waves anyway there.

There isn't a lot to do besides walk around and check out the sites. Also, it is somewhat expensive to fly into Manzanillo. If you fly into Puerto Vallarta, you still need to take a 4 hour first-class bus ride (http://www.primeraplus.com.mx).

I'd rather answer your specific questions on MSN instead of writing everything here. Feel free to fire them over.

You are right though. If they cleaned it up and got into the 20th century, it would be a very cool (and visitor friendly) country outside of the resorts.

Mountainman, glad you made it back ok, usually the 2nd time you visit a place is not as wonderful as the 1st time.....

But you will love Spain, if you get a chance visit Salamanica, great city....Also Toledo (not Ohio)

I was there abot 4 years ago and loved it....Oh by the way, DO NOT say any thing bad about bullfighting, that is their pride and joy next to Soccer...

and bad mouthing their pastime will get you in hot water....I Know..

Yeah, the 2nd time wasn't as great. However, I think it was a mix of the travling ways (bus, taxi, plane, etc) plus the place that we went.

I cannot wait to go to Spain. I am applying to study at the Universidad de Salamanca. If it pans out, I'll be there for 5 weeks this summer and 5 weeks next. That would be GREAT!!!

Bullfighting: Where to start? I woudn't say that I'm a big fan, however I have tons of curiosity and would love to see some done. I dont think that I could get interested in it as a sport to follow. I totally understand the culture and way of life behind Spain and the Toro Bravo. That would be like them coming here and bad mouthing drugs, pizza, and football (Fake football, not real football).

Anyway, thanks again for your post. I am really excited and I hope I get accepted.

Good for you for going to Salamancia, you will not be dissapointed...by the way, they actually show the bullfights on TV, just like our baseball or football....

Madrid was a disappointment to me, it is too modern a city, I guess it was torn up during Spains Civil War..Most of Madrid is now flashy, with discos, bars and subways....Stick to the central part of Spain.....You will not regret it..

I would also agree. I would sitick to the Mediterrean coast. Go to Barcelonia, Seville, or Cartengna. What a blast.
