Some drives have jumpers on them to set the dma property to enable. But I don't think Maxtor does this. Take a look and see. You might want to auto detech your drive in the bios to see if that changes anything.

Save you money and wait. I run a Echo electronics Darla 24/96 sound card through a Mackie 1604vlz mixer then (optionally) through a Digitech Gsp2101 effects processor. 150W power amp and then in to a pair of Boston Acoutic bookshelf speakers. A little more than a $150 but well worth the money. Talk ...

Ragnarok, MailmanX is correct about the multiplier. I have a 500mhz PIII with PC 100 ram and have bumped mine up to 585 mhz by increasing the FSB. (without any additional cooling) and it stayed stable. But I would not suggest doing this unless you get some extra cooling. I never keep mine set that ...

I am using the same onboard controller. Just new cables. The way I understood it was that these were "Quality" cables and would help with performance. I understand what Colour is saying about the compatibility issue... I just thought I might get a slight bump in performance

80 Pin Ide Cables

I hooked up both my Maxtor Udma 33 10gig drives to a new 80 pin Cable, removing the old stock Ide cables . I have read (and it stated on the Belkin box in the store. I did not buy them, I had some at home) that this would increase my drive performance. I have been benchmarking with "Sandra" and I do ...

Everyone, Thanks for the input. Since Mjfmlv knew what the last 3 meant I'll stick with this answer. I understand what's going on here, but I don't overclock. Anyway, what is "da kind" memory to buy for stability and performance.

:D Thanks again for the help

thanks, I thought I was hosed since I did not find this out until after reformatting. I was reading the numbers on the disk (someone had written on them) incorrectly. Got it up and running. I guess they encrypt this on the cdrom?

Memory Rating

When I purchase memory the Stats that I get from SiSoft Sandra show Pc 100-333-622. I know that it is rated as "Pc100" memory but what do the next 2 sequences mean. I also have some "Pc 125-222-622" ???

Thanks

Ok, Maybe a little clearer here. If you go into your device manager (win98), expand the systems devices tab, click on the "Direct Memory Access Controller", then properties, under settings it gives you the option of setting "reserved DMA buffer". What will this do? Does anyone know or am I digging ...

I recently purchased a Elsa Gladiac MX board. I upgraded from a VooDoo Banshee so the difference was incredible (I realize there are better boards but this one rings my bell just fine).
