not sure if you ever got this answered or not, but DateTime.AddMonth(-1) returns a new date, so it will not affect saveNow. You'd need to write saveNow = saveNow.AddMonth(-1);
I also live in Grants Pass, and have the exact same problem. I also run into the horrible slow down around 10pm to midnight... wish I had an answer for the problem, though.
Make sure you open a command prompt... then type in:
tasklist /svc
Should give you a list...
open a command window and type in "Tasklist /svc" without the quotes and it will give you a list of what svchost is running
