I have a Dell Latitude CPx P3 500mhz laptop with a DVD rom.... does anyone know how many watts this would take to run from an invertor in the car? Wal-Mart has a 75 Watt invertor that is supposedly good for 60 w continuous.

TIA

Input rating on the Dell brick for the CPx is 70 watts continuous. You need to be careful of the cheapy inverters with laptops. These are "square wave" inverters, that use an oscillator to create a modified sine wave. They are very inefficient, and will generate a lot of heat in the laptop power brick. You'll also be amazed how much 12v power they consume. Only plug them into actual cigarette lighter plugs, which usually have 30amp circuits. Don't ever plug them into Y-adapters, or accesory plugs.
