There are two different interfaces for monitors, analog and digital. I believe all CRT's are analog and many of the LCD's utilize the digital interface. I cannot tell you the avantages to the digital header.

What is the persistance or fall off of the pixels? You do not want any smearing during videos. Samsung does make a decent monitor.

I would go with 19"

CRTs first, I don't think so..as david mentioned, they're all analog and the DVI port (Digital Video/Visual Interface) was created for digital monitors such as LCDs..As for the 171T, It's also a good monitor. Here's what I suggest, take a look at it's native resolution (usually the maximum supported rate) and figure out if it's high enough for you. The LCD will look best at that resolution and will not go higher, so if it isn't high enough--get a bigger LCD. I'm pretty sure the 191T is dual interface (DVI and analog). I also think 171T is dual interface. Please check the boxes before you buy them though (even if you have to go to a store first)...just incase (my memory may not be perfect :))

I'd get the 191T if you can afford it, you'll thank yourself later.

I know that Apple makes a kick ass 17 inch LCD, with around 1280x1024 display, and so says the rumors its screen res. is better than the apple 21 incher..and ya can get the 17' for around $999.00 approx.

Im also a HUGE Hitachi fan...I think their monitor tubes/flat panel LCDs are some of the best. The Hitachi CML174. The goal with this LCD is that they tried their best to get rid of the most of the jagged edges and "ghosting" that most of LCD's these days cost for gamers like myself. Thats one reason ill never use a flat panel for gaming..but this LCD seems pretty promising. They started shipping in early november for a price around $699.00 approx..

and last thing...the ViewSonic VA700 im buying for a buddy in a few days and i like it a lot..You cant buy anything bad from viewsonic LCD or monitor wise. Amro has a monitor from Viewsonic and i love it. Great picture and awesome for gaming. But in your case sense ur lookin for an LCD this is a great one as well.. it has a max res of 1280x1024 like all these other LCD's. and built in speakers,,..street price of about 500 bucks...

happy huntin buddy...
