could the cpu be overheating cause on the restarts the fan stops and then starts again after 5 sec.
or could it be the 2 new sticks of 256 sd 133 i put about 1 1/2 months.

thanks guys

try unplugging your cdroms..and just booting w/ hdd and floppy..run it for a while..if it doesn't restart, then replace your powersupply. it may not be putting out enough juice. also run some sort of test on your memory

voltages a bit to see if that solves the instability problem. If this happened right after you put the stick into your system and you had no problem before, then try and get the stick refunded or exchanged.

is it a stock heatsink? If yes, then your fan is FUBAR, get a new heatsink/fan combo (could be overheating and your system is restarting as a sign that it's overheating.

touch the heatsink while running the system to see if it is hot to the touch or very warm.

IM SUPRISED

the heatsink is extreamly cool, not even warm. could it be that its not touching the die, becuase my cousin tried taking it off but he couldnt get the clip off so he left it. could that be it

If the heatsink is cool, then it's not seated properly and the cpu is overheating. Apply some AS3 and reseat the heatsink b4 you fry that cpu.

i have never taken a fan off a cpu before( hard to beleive)
and i dont want to puch to hard on the heatsink so it will crack the die.
wat do i do

reseat and re arrange the Memory.. I foiund one of my system instabilities by just taking mem sticks out, blowing on them to clean, then securing putting them back in

could be.. take it out... make sure it has contact wit hte heat sink

it's easy to take out.. and put it back the same way u took it out...

it should fit perfectly.. don't force it.. just gently.. tis easy! even I did it..

before you do that, get a program called speedfanand see how hot you're running. It could be any number of things... you just have to keep trying until you find it.

If you're running winxp, check the error logs. If you're not, perhaps it's time to upgrade? It very well could be software. A friend of mine is running a celery 700(something). He was always freezing up. I thought it was hsf going. Turned out it was windows washer, ie a software problem!!

hardware you check first for this kind of problem... software is still a possiblity.

unplug all the unneccesary items. LIke the cd rom drive, ur USB items, floppy etc... And see if lack of power is a prob
