I am really impressed, but I disagree with your memory selection. I find a corner to cut to improve the

Samsung Original DDR333 PC-2700 512mb CAS2.5 - OEM Version

Although it is agrueable if the cas 2.5 is going to make a difference, it just seems as if the money being spent is unbalanced.

For example, what if you were to step down that video card and the cpu and make it a gig of higher quality memory? I bet you'd have a faster and better machine. Or try and figure out a way to get a raid0 going, if you have another HD avialable to backup on.

thoughts?

Well, the thing is... I'm on a budget of $1500. If you have suggestions on what to do I'd be happy to try and see if I can afford it :)

OHH... i see it now.

I only saw the one stick of memory, now I see the two. I'm at work on a lil 15 monitor.

CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 32MX8 PC-3200C2 With Heat Spreader -$205

AMD Athlon XP 2200+/266 FSB Processor CPU - Retail Box
Specifications:
CPU: 1.8 GHz - $164.00

That gives you faster AND better memory...

your setup-
300(memory)+293(cpu)=593

alt setup-
410(memory)+164(cpu)=574

alt setup might even oc high enough to beat out orginal setup.

The heatsink that's on your list will get you temps like 45*+C@idle. I would look at a different one like an all copper if you opt for anything in the AMD XP/Thoroughbred line, especially if you're OC'ing in the future, IMO.

well that ram is well worht the $,if he ever wants to play with overclocking it will handle it fine, and I have never noticed a difference between 512 and a gig of ram on any windows box I have ever worked on or built.unless he will be doing some serious video editing, then 512 is plenty.more than 512 will not make a performance difference for most pc's.
I personally have this ram CMX512-2700C2 Extreme Corsair (http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/products/specs/cmx512-2700c2.pdf) but the samsung is rockin' memory too!

Try getting a CD-RW with an 8MB buffer. It makes a BIG difference in time.

I'm curious...

I'm sure a larger buffer is always good. How much is a 8meg buffer cdrw going to cost?? And considering the burner is a 48x how much time can we possibly be talking about? My 24x will copy a disk on the fly at that speed and i'm around 3:30-4:00. If a 48x is less then 2:30(guess), we have to be talking less then a dozen seconds.

worth the cost? prob not, although I wish to be enlightened.

Also how many of these 8mb cache burn in RAW DAO mode; haven't seen one yet that does

I believe the philips cdrw's have the 8 mb cache but no dice in RAW DAO mode

>This< (http://www.axiontech.com/cgi-local/prdtinfo.asp?prdt=CDACCRW3248) is the last I can find of my burner. It was at newegg, but they ran out. It gets to top speed instantly, and stays at top speed the whole time. It's a damn good burner, and it's very cheap.
