I have a friend who is having some problems with his floppy. According to Device manager ... it is working properly ... however ... it is not being recognized when he tries to access it. He double clicks it and all he gets is the old hour glass ... just sitting there ... not locked up ... just not doing anything.

His setup is as follows:

Asus board (not sure of which one), Windows 98SE, AMD K6 400 MHz, 6 GB hdd, 256 MB PC100 RAM, 250 watt PSU.

Not much to go on ... but maybe you could give me some ideas of what to look for.

Thank you guys ...

Check the ribbon and also see if one of the pins at the back of the floppy drive is bent. Could be that. if not, the floppy drive could be fuxors.

Thanks LT ... I did suggest the ribbon cable to him. Just wanted to be sure there is nothing else to look at. He said he had another ribbon and was going to try it tonight. I will let you know if that worked or not.

Thanks again.
