i bought a western digital 40gig recently, and when i reformat it i only have the choice of ntfs (quick) and ntfs. how do i get it to format using fat32?


using winxp home

use a win98 boot disk to create a partition with fdisk and format it before you install the windows cd...

Why do you want FAT32? NTFS is a far superiour file system...? Also it only gives you that option because it was meant to be run on NTFS (XP) But of course if you really want a fat partition for XP do as brent says... but of course it will ask you to format with ntfs again.

I thought it asked that because it was a HDD greater than 32 GB?
